Recently, the Japanese video game giant Nintendo unvield the second revision of the Switch - the OLED Nintendo Switch. While many fans were hoping for a bigger upgrade with features like 4K gaming, some other fans are quite satisfied with what Nintendo has done. Thus, the Nintendo community has been divided into two. But unexpectedly, the new console's revision has also affected the PlayStation fans, especially Vita fans, who have taken out their frustration, shared nostalgic experiences and published memes on social media. What have the they got to do with this?

It's all got to do with the PS Vita...

The PS Vita was launched on 11 December 2011 as the popular PSP's successor. The outstanding feature of the Vita was, well, the use of the OLED display - the same feature that can be seen in the new Switch. The 5 inch OLED touchscreen was a lot better looking than the PSP's 4.3 inch LCD screen, and the games hugely benefited from this. The Vita was already ahead of its time, in a way.
Although it turned out to be a commercial failure, it was immensely loved by a small number of loyal fans. You could say it turned out to be something like a cult following. Fans were and are still upset as to why Sony started ignoring the Vita, with only a handful of first party and other big third party games being launched. Fortunately, the Vita came to be seen as a perfect platform for indie game developers to publish their content over the years, with games still being published even in 2021.
Back in March this year, Sony had announced that it would be closing down the digital PS Stores on the Vita and PS3 respectivexly. This caused a massive uproar in the PlayStation community that lead to Sony ultimately cancelling their plan. Fans are just refusing to let the PS Vita die.
